Local Students Recognized by Putnam County, Boys State and VFW

Putnam County Youth Awards, Boys State and the VFW recently honored local students for leadership, scholarship, patriotism, character, exemplary community service efforts, and for being positive role models and outstanding youth volunteers.

The honorees were chosen by a selection committee for their community service efforts benefiting Putnam residents.

Pictured from left above are Haldane seniors Michelle McEwen, Shauna Ricketts and Nicole Pidala who placed first, second, and third, respectively, in the VFW Voice of Democracy Essay Contest. Each student wrote patriotic and eloquent speeches as to why they are proud and excited for the future of America.

Pictured from left are Haldane seniors Matthew Drotar and Steven Casement. Matthew and Steven have been selected to attend Boys State from June 27 through July 3 at SUNY Morrisville State College. Boys State is a summer leadership and citizenship program sponsored by the American Legion.
