Cold Spring to host pie-baking contest

As part of its annual Independence Day festivities on Saturday, June 30, Cold Spring officials will host a pie-baking contest.

Sweet and dessert pies of every type are welcome, including creme, nut and fruit pies, as long as they are homemade and include a homemade crust base and do not include ice cream or frozen elements.

Pie entries should be delivered to the Cold Spring bandstand in disposable containers on June 30 between 2 and 3 p.m., where entry forms will be available. Alternatively they can be downloaded in advance at The form includes a request for ingredients for both the filling and crust.

Ribbons will be awarded for first, second and third prize at 5:30 p.m. at the bandstand. The first-place winner will be crowned the 2018 Cold Spring Pie King or Queen and be asked next year to crown the 2019 winner.

Following the award ceremony, slices of the entered pies will be sold for $1 each. The rain date is July 1.
